David and Paul Rigano
So. what’s so great about the Rigano Songbook?
Thanks for asking, they're terrible at tooting their own horn. They are two brothers, David and Paul, who write bomb-ass new musicals with a foot in the world of the classics and an eye toward the future.
Meh. Anything else?
Uh... sure… aside from writing fantastic original and adapted musicals, they’ve also created hit concert series, such as “I Ought to Behave” and other Naughty Songs and their decade long hit The Ides of March Extravaganza featuring guests from Broadway, Off-Broadway, and beyond singing their original songs.
You said they’re… good?
Have they like, won any awards?
Have they ever! Their musical You Heard It Here won Best Score at NY Winterfest 2017, they were in the inaugural 2018 class of the Town Stages fellowship, and they won the 2020 RAVE Social Distancing Festival with their viral song, Screen to Screen, featuring over 40 singers and musicians.
Ok, but like, awards I’ve heard of?
Do they have a Tony?
Yes!
Holy crap, really? For what?
Cards on the table: we lied about the Tony Award; we didn't think you'd come back with such hard hitting follow-ups, Mr. Woodward. But they do really write shows that are new and exciting!
How so?
Glad you asked! David and Paul use their deep knowledge of musical theatre history, lore, and craft to create art that feels familiar, but challenges traditional social and artistic expectations. They are deeply committed to making theatre inclusive and accessible. For example, their virtual musicals Get The Duchess and We Were Wild are completely gender neutral; anyone of any gender can play any part. Also, they’ve consistently made their annual Ides of March Extravaganza available for livestreaming, so you don’t have to live in NYC to see it! Theatre is for everyone, and David and Paul are committed to making sure everyone has a place in this industry which so often tries to pigeonhole and exclude.
One more thing…
Yes?
All this talking in the third person… aren’t you just David and Paul writing this?
Well, yes, but so are you.
David and Paul Rigano make up the award-winning cabaret and musical theater songwriting team The Rigano Songbook. For over a decade they have presented their annual Ides of March Extravaganza at venues around NYC, and their other customizable cabaret shows can be booked for your venue or event. They created the educational TikTok series “Audition Tips We Wish You Knew” and are available individually or together for audition coaching.
